Vermont

  • There is a $150 fee for this name change process (found under the probate section on the fees chart).

Vermont ID Gender Marker change information:

Vermont has an option to choose “X”, "F", or "M" for the gender marker on your Driver's License or Non-Driver's State ID. To change your gender marker you do not need to show any documentation.

If it is time to renew your license, or you are getting one for the first time, there is no additional fee to change your gender marker. You can fill out this form online here.

If you want to change your gender marker between renewals, fill out the Replacement License Form which needs to be sent or brought into the VT DMV office with a $20 fee. (Note: you still do not have to show any additional documents to make this change!)

Massachusetts

Gender ID Marker Change Information:

To amend a driver’s license or state ID with an “X” gender marker, applicants will need to fill out an application and bring the completed form to an RMV service center.

Birth Certificates, Driver's Licenses, State IDs

As of 2019, applicants can apply to amend their Driver’s License and State ID with an “X” gender marker by completing a Gender Designation Form in addition to providing the other documentation outlined on this page.

On July 15, 2020, the state of Maine announced the inclusion of "X" gender markers on birth certificates. An individual notarized application submitted to the Maine Vital Records Office with a copy of a photo ID and $15.00 is required to change the gender on a birth certificate. More information here.

New Hampshire

Gender Marker change information

New Hampshire has an option to choose “X”, "F", or "M" for the gender marker on your Driver's License or Non-Driver's State ID. You must complete this Change of Gender Designation Form, which includes a certification by a licensed and qualified health care provider. “This form must be brought to any DMV office in person. A new picture will be taken, and a duplicate NH Driver License or Non-Driver Identification card will be printed. The fee is $10.00, and the individual's current NH License or Non-Driver Identification card shall be surrendered.” (NH DMV)
