In early 2024, we closed on three acres of land to serve as the permanent physical home for Out in the Open & our rural LGBTQ+ community.

After working towards this in some way every day for the past 10 years, we are thrilled to have access to this place for our community! Through many conversations among staff and board, we pursued buying a property without existing buildings because we knew it would give us more control over how much money we need to raise and spend and when.

Our magical home is on a dirt road, about 10 minutes from downtown Brattleboro, VT, and has some critical pieces of infrastructure already in place. There is an existing gravel driveway throughout offering accessibility to all portions of the land, a drilled well, cleared areas, a dug pond, and more! In the summer of 2025, we’ll be completing an open-air pavilion as well as some permanent restrooms.

We are also starting to work with neighbors, colleagues, and OITO community members to create a campus plan that we’ll use to guide the next years of building home here, together.
