Out in the Open Summit for Rural & Small Town LGBTQ Folks --a gathering place to collectively discuss and explore our rural and small town experiences as LGBTQ people.
Fellowships like our inaugural 2023 Vermont Trans Audio Retreat and 2024 Maine LGBTQ+ Audio Retreat! These audio retreats bring together rural LGBTQ+ folks from the region. Over the course of 5 days, our cohorts--led by Rae of Country Queers--craft incredible audio pieces. We hope to continue this audio and storytelling offering, and need your support to do so
Our Power & Belonging Fellowship! This is a paid cohort of LGBTQ+ people in rural Maine who, with the support of Out in the Open, will strategize and build relationships together--taking what they've learned back into their home communities to talk and work with their neighbors across differences.

Out in the Open is also proud to announce that out of over three dozen applicants we've been chosen to participate in The National LGBTQ Legacy Giving Initiative! This is a three-year pilot project that includes 12 LGBTQ+ nonprofits from across the country as key partners. The goal is to help us build legacy-giving capacity and, most importantly, for the NLLGI to learn from this pilot project and use that knowledge to shape a much more ambitious future effort.
Legacy giving, also known as planned giving, is a commitment to leave a gift to support an organization after passing. A vast transfer of wealth—through estates—is taking place in U.S. over the next 10-25 years. Several million LGBTQ people will be leaving their estates over this time.
For every letter of commitment, at any amount, Out in the Open receives over the next 3 years--we'll receive a bonus of $1500 from the project. Our legacy work begins in earnest in June 2025! Now is a great time to let us know if you've already included us in your legacy planning & or you're interested in doing so!
