Queer Rural Health Resource Guide (New England!)

Heya. Did you see the sun? I did, and the snow banks went and hid their faces in shame. It was a glorious day out there. I hope you got some of it on your face.

Speaking of sun and the upcoming opportunities to replenish your vitamin D stores without the aid of sardines or nutraceutical supplements, I wanted to talk about health, yours and mine and the whole queer community's.

While this blog is a space to chat, rant, and otherwise pour our hearts out about queer rural living, one of the particular threads we'll be following is the state of health care for queers living in rural areas.

There are so many issues we want to tackle in upcoming posts, including but not limited to:

What are issues particular to queer folks accessing care in rural areas?
How do folks find and access queer-friendly providers?
How do providers gain queer competency?
What are ways queer folks can learn to advocate for ourselves and each other?
What are existing successful models of providing access and care to queer individual and             communities?
How do queer rural health issues intersect with the issues of other marginalized                             communities?

Are there other issues you think we should research/discuss/investigate or otherwise weigh in on? Do you know awesome providers or individuals who have relevant stories to tell? Someone we should interview? Please let us know.

To kick off this exploration, we've posted some queer and trans-friendly resources for both healthcare providers as well as those seeking care. Do you know of something that should be on the list? Give us a shout!
